Winni Redezvous 2010
By Chuck Healey
Historically we seemed to be dealt with bad weather on the weekend of the Wiinipesaukee Rendezvous. Thankfully this year was an exception! Al and Karen Hill arrived at Fays Boat Yard in Gilford around 11:30 on Friday to set up and launch Karamal. Karen announced that the theme of this rendezvous was the turtle. Andrew Found joined us later in the day and Dan and Nancy Dobbins made a surprise visit as well. Al, Karen, Andy, my wife Helen and my daughter Brianna and I went to Patrick’s for dinner
Saturday was another beautiful day. Andy came back again with his boat Over Easy in tow. He launched her and brought the 26X over to the slip to set up. Andy surprised everybody by installing a handcrafted metal turtle he made the night before, in keeping with the theme of the cruise! The turtle was installed on his stern rail using a mount from a barbecue grill. Helen and Brianna arrived along with two of Brianna’s friends, both of who have never been sailing before. Dan and Nancy also returned to crew on Karamel. Tacit Blue, Karamal and Over Easy headed out on the lake around noon. We headed out towards the Broads but the winds were calm, so we decided to motor over to the Weirs for Lunch .
The three boats tied up at the Weirs docks and we spent an enjoyable day at Weirs beach having pizza and ice cream. The local veterans association surprised us all by firing off their cannon next door. Half way back to Fays the winds starting picking up and we all enjoyed some nice sailing conditions. That night, we once again had dinner at Patrick’s.
We were blessed with another beautiful day on Sunday. Helen and Karen decided to go shopping. They drove up to Center Harbor to visit a yarn shop. Al, Andy and myself took the opportunity of the great weather to do some more sailing. Al went out with Andy on Over Easy and I met them with Tacit Blue for another great day on the lake. We had a pleasant sail around Bear Island with light winds. We arrived back at Fay’s 5 hours later sunburned but happy. All in all it turned out to be a great weekend. Good friends, good food and good sailing are an unbeatable combination!
