Launching Ramps
NE-TS / MOANE

Ames Ramp
Lake Winnipesaukee

Directions to ramp: From Nashua, NH: Total Distance: 73.3 miles (117.9 km) Total Estimated Time: 1 hour, 36 minutes Proceed north on Route 3 -- FREDERICK E EVERETT TURNPIKE (two tolls of $0.75 each) for 28.5 miles, where it will become I-93 N. Continue North for 25.4 miles. Take exit number 20, the US-3/RT-11 exit. Turn LEFT onto US-3 (towards Laconia). Continue for 11.4 miles. -- Follow signs for US-3 and NH-11 carefully. US-3 becomes NH-11. Continue for 6 miles. Ames farm will be on the left. It is on a sweeping curve, and you cannot see it coming up too far in advance. Map

Ramp condition and docks: There are two steep concrete ramps in good condition (as of summer 1998). There is plenty of maneuvering room for boat and tow vehicle and no overhead wires -- only a few trees to be watchful of. There is one dock to tie up to while preparing to get under way. It becomes busy during peak times. It is possible to use an unoccupied slip for a short period of time if the dock is busy.Chart

Parking and Fee: There is plenty of parking in a large field. Fee is $10 for parking and ramp use.

Amenities: In season, which runs approximately May through October, Ames Farm has a Restaurant that serves breakfast and lunch. Waterfront cabins are available, too. Please call for dates and time of operation. There is also a small store where Lake Winnipesaukee charts are available. There is a public rest room in the store. Boat storage is available near the ramp so that you can leave your boat on the trailer setup and ready to launch. In 1998 the fee for summer season storage was $450. Winter storage is also available.

Other notes: If the wind is blowing hard from the north, waves can develop making launch and retrieval a little more challenging than usual. Boat wakes from passing power and ski boats sometimes offer similar challenges. This is a great location with easy access to the "Broads". Suggested trips include Wolfeboro to the east, Center Harbor to the northwest.
